So what is hygge?  Hygge is all the rage these days!  When I read about hygge on a recent trip to Denmark, I just felt something click.  The meaning and purpose behind hygge so perfectly translated to my approach to wellness that I named my entire business after it.  If you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and unfulfilled, discovering hygge and practicing it in your day-to-day routine may be just the thing to help.

As self care becomes more and more prevalent in mainstream wellness, I’ve realized that overall health and well-being actually has more to do with caring for your mind, body, and soul through self-compassion and mindfulness.

You can try all the dieting, binging, and over exercising in the world and still feel like something’s missing or not working.  Besides, a lot of times it’s not about having greater control over our eating, drinking, or exercising.

It’s usually about something deeper within us that maybe feels ignored, shoved aside, or unfulfilled.

Although hygge is really an attitude and way of life, there are specific examples of how people all around the world implement hygge.  A few examples of hygge in everyday life are:

Hygge is the idea of slowing down and enjoying little moments of life’s joy.  It’s not about any material items or anything.  It’s a feeling you get when you’re perfectly content & fulfilled.

I like to think of hygge as the way you feel the day after a big snow storm, when you’re snowed in and forced to relax and enjoy time at home.  You usually get cozy, comfortable, bake, cook, or play games with your family.  Those are the BEST days!  Imagine if you could re-create that feeling in just a few minutes per day at home?

Hygge Can Make You Happier

Getting hygge can help you feel happier because you will feel centered, calm, and fulfilled.  Hygge is really a fancy, Danish word for self care.  As you know, self care is all about making sure you feel fulfilled on a personal level so you’re better able to help & care for others in your life.

By integrating hygge practices, or self care, into your daily or weekly routine, you’ll feel less frustrated, agitated, and stressed.  Have you ever had a time in your life where you were just go-go-go all the time and it led to you feeling exhausted & pissed off?  I know I definitely have!  And really, it was no one’s fault but my own.  It’s amazing how different you feel when you take the time to do something for yourself.  You can approach life’s curve balls with more confidence, a sense of fulfillment & contentment, and a feeling of calm.
